Connectivity with PoE
The 8 10/100 Fast Ethernet ports can be used purely for data communications, or 4 of these ports can be utilised to supply industry-standard IEEE 802.3af power, known as ‘Power over Ethernet’. Power over Ethernet greatly simplifies the positioning and installation of wireless access points or IP-based CCTV surveillance cameras. These devices are optimally installed on a ceiling or high on a wall, typically away from most electrical sockets. PoE eliminates the requirement for a dedicated electrical socket to power these devices. PoE enables you to place wireless APs or IP cameras pretty much anywhere, even where AC power would have been difficult to access, which lowers installation costs.
An advanced auto-sensing algorithm provides power only to 802.3af end devices, so there is no need to be concerned about damaging non-PoE equipment. In addition the NETGEAR FS108P network switch discontinues the power when PoE devices are disconnected. Easy and reliable, the NETGEAR ProSafe FS108P network switch automatically determines PoE requirements, speed, duplex, and cable type using Auto Uplink™.
Value for Money
With data network switching and Power over Ethernet integrated into a single casing, the NETGEAR FS108P switch saves space, reduces cabling and eliminates the need for dedicated electrical outlets. All this lowers installation costs, simplifying deployment of PoE capable devices by eliminating the need for electricians or extension reels.
